Description
On the bank of a river in which a flock of ducks is bathing, a woman and her servant are sitting on a mat in front of a thatched hut, beating the laundry. A man has laid the flail aside and is preparing to bring the harvested crop into the hut. The title contains the name of the poet Narihira and the poem depicting the despair of an abandoned woman. Collector's stamp by Hayashi.

Acquired by Herbert Ginsberg in Japan in 1908; 1908 - at least end of 1929 Ostasiatica collection Herbert Ginsberg, Berlin; after 1945 no longer in the possession of Herbert Ginsberg; circumstances of loss unknown - a loss as a result of Nazi persecution cannot be ruled out. Whereabouts unknown
